What is Osteopathy?

An osteopath is a regulated healthcare professional who focuses on diagnosing and treating problems related to the muscles, joints, and spine (the musculoskeletal system).

Osteopaths use a hands-on approach alongside medical screening to assess how your body is moving and functioning. Treatment is tailored to the individual and may include gentle techniques such as stretching, massage, and joint mobilisation, as well as advice on exercise, posture, and daily activities.

People commonly see an osteopath for issues such as back or neck pain, joint and muscle discomfort, or minor sports injuries. Osteopaths aim to improve movement, reduce discomfort, and support the body’s ability to function as well as possible.

Osteopaths in the UK are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), meaning they meet strict standards for training, safety, and professional practice.
